Columbus Council Discusses Purchase Of New Washer Extractor For Fire Department | Daily Dodge
(Columbus) The Columbus Council discussed the purchase of a new washer extractor for the Columbus Fire Department. The control module on the current washer is broken and because it is from 1993, no parts are available to replace it. The part that is needed is a key piece to wash the carcinogens that can cause cancer from the firefighting gear.
Alderman Ryan Rosted was wondering why this item came to the committee, but City Administrator Matt Amundson says it is an unbudgeted item.
“The purchasing policy doesn’t allow department heads or myself to purchase something that’s non-budgeted,” says Amundson.
Considering the aspect of health and safety, Alderman Michael Lawson wanted to know if this could be fast-tracked. Matt Amundson:
“I think very similarly to how the last police vehicle was purchased at the [committee of the whole] you kind of gave the blessing to place the order, knowing that it would come back March 4 for the official council approval,” Amundson says.
After some discussion, the matter was moved forward for a vote at the next regular meeting.
